Feng Shui for the Bathroom
Of the things I have learned while researching feng shui for the bathroom, what appears to be the most important is achieving a balance. There is a natural tension between the yin force of this room (ruled by water, a calming and restful element) and the negative results of modern, indoor plumbing, which pulls positive energy, (a lay persons way of saying “chi”), and wealth or empowerment, literally and metaphorically down the drain.
So what do we do?
Attractive Ways to Organize in the Bathroom
Last week I talked about clearing the clutter from your bathroom. I’m hoping that there are a few of you out there in the blogosphere who are now feeling slightly “lighter”. Do you feel a bit of weight has been lifted when you look at your vanity?
There were a few interesting articles in the New York Times this past weekend. First of all, Durham was written up as one of 41 places to visit in 2011. Great news! As our friend Craig pointed out however, it was right between Kurdistan and Kosovo…huh?
You may have noticed that I took a little break for the holidays (I hope you did too). It’s been a lovely few weeks of friends, family, good cheer, and over-indulgence. Now of course, I’m launching into 2011 full of optimism and lots of resolutions (including a few I’ve already broken). That said, one promise I made myself was to read more. I’m happy to say my holiday was filled with books and I finished THREE between Christmas and New Years! To keep up the pace and get in the mood, how about a few gorgeous photos of home libraries?

I’ll be honest, I put this next one in because of the sofa. The bookshelves are impressive, but ooohhhh, that worn leather Chesterfield…nap time.
Kathryn Ireland has been all over the blogosphere lately. Now, this Kathryn is the interior designer – not to be mistaken with Kathy Ireland – the swimsuit supermodel…also talented, but in a different way.
I first noticed Kathryn’s work in a February issue of House Beautiful when I fell in love with her design in a spread called “Reimagining an Old Charmer”. Here’s a little sample so you can see what I mean.
I love the way she drapes fabric over the back of the sofa below. Makes me think of the tapestries I used to decorate with in my college apartments (albeit, a tad more stylish).
